Distributional Models of Category Concepts Based on Names of Category Members

In computational linguistics, a large body of work exists on distributed modeling lexical relations, focussing largely relations such as hypernymy (scientist -- person) that hold between two categories, expressed by common nouns. contrast, linguistics has paid little attention to entities denoted proper nouns (Marie Curie, Mumbai, ...). These have investigated in detail the Knowledge Representation and Semantic Web communities, but generally not with regard their linguistic properties. Our paper closes this gap investigating relation instantiation, which holds an entity-denoting category-denoting expression Curie scientist or Mumbai city). We present new, principled dataset for task instantiation detection well experiments analyses dataset. obtain following results: (a), belonging one category form region distributional space, embedding word is typically located outside subspace; (b) it easy learn distinguish from categories evidence, due much harder when using representations categories; (c) problem can be alleviated based entity rather than embeddings.
